MANGATOKI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday afternoon the local school held its annual breaking-up ceremony, which was well attended by parents and friends. A number of verymuch appreciated items were presented oy the children, including: “The Aeroplane Song,’’ junior boys; “Shepherdess Bong and Dance” by the primers; recitation, Ron Farrell; Japanese fan dance, junior girls; musical drill, senior girls; recitation, Rex Cleaver; song, “Smithy,” senior hoys. Alter the prizes were presented, Mr. 'Marx (chairman of the school committee), on behalf of the teachers and scholars, presented Miss Humphries with two liand-painted cups, saucers, and plates, as well as half-a-dozen silver teaspoons. Mr. Marx expressed his regret that Miss Humphries was unable to attend, but wished her a speedy recovery. Mr Farnell also spoke, on the way in which Miss Humphries ha'd* worked in and out of school, and said how much she was missed by all at the school. Master Spencer Reeves, on behalf of the sixth standard pupils, presented the headmaster, Mr Farnell with a* shaving outfit.

* Mr Farrell said how sorry he was to see his pupils leaving, but wished them every success in their new careers. He remarked on the very successful year and the results of the examinations had proved very satisfactory in all classes, every pupil receiving promotion of some kind. He also thanked the many people who had helped in any way with functions in connection with the school. He especially thanked Mr. O. Marx and Mr. C. Carlson for the way in which they so willingly conveyed the boys to sport and also to the proficiency examination. The two special prizes which were given bv Mr. Bluett and Mr. Farnell were wpn by Alfred Hoskin and William Burke. After the singing of the National Anthem, afternoon tea was served in the hall by the ladies’ committee.

PERSONAL. Mr., Mrs. and Master Farnell left early this morning for their holidays. Mr. Grant, at one time headmaster of the school, is expected to spend Christmas in this district.*
