SCHOOLS’ ORCHESTRA
BROADCASTING CONCERT POSTPONED.
Advice having been received by Mr F. A. Bates, hon. secretary to blie orchestra or the schools, that the time was ' not opportune for ithe orchestra to perform m Wellington, a meeting of parentis was held yesterday at the riiiiin School, and as the outcome it was agreed to postpone the trip, prouahly til', Apia], when it would 'definitely tie made. Air Douglas Tayior, diicctor or uvasic in ischoo/is, advised that he found the ;schools whose pupils he wished to attend would be busy with their annual concerts, and in addition there was a difficulty in billeting. In consequence lie had to revise the arrangements. It was stated by Mr Bates that a previous letter from Air Douglas Tayor gave details of arrangements made lor December 20 and 21, Die matter Having been taken up by Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P. Air Taylor had iseen the broadcasting manager, and had! engaged the Town Huli concert chamber tor the concert, and billeting w.a.s being arranged when the message came through on Thursday last from Mr Taylor advising postponement. He added that support would be forthcoming next year. Air Bates " said there would be no difficulty in getting the orchestra together next year, and All* Harding said they wished to make the visit a successful one. Air Taylor had added, said Air Bates, that he wished the children in Wellington to hear the concert, and so secure the educational value of the performance.
Arrangements would therefore be made to bold the concert, probably early in April, at a. definite date to be arranged in consultation with the director.
