BOY SCOUTS AFLOAT.
EXTENSION OF ORGANISATION
THE FOUNDER’S PLANS
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Dec. 7. Boy Scouts will shortly appear on the high seas, according to tlie latest plan of Sir Robert Baden Powell, who has founded the movement with the intention of establishing deep sea scouts. A distinct body of sea scouts has now been organised at the ports with the object of carrying out the scout spirit afloat, enrolling all hoys working on ocean-going ships. Thus cabin boys, mess hoys and stewards’ assistants will soon have their own troops and will work in conjunction with the shore scouts.
The authorities say that there is not a big seaport in the world in which the boy scout movement has not obtained a footing. When a deep sea scout lands abroad he will be welcomed and shown hospitality. Arrangements are being made whereby scout commissioners overseas can get in touch with the scouts afloat, search them out and start troops on their respective ships. By the time the scout movement celebrates its 21st birthday here next summer it is hoped that deep sea scouts will be sailing on all the ocenas of tlie world.
