MANAIA.

The Manaia Rbd Cross Patriotic Committee held a street day yesterday which proved to be very -successful. The effort was in aid of Christmas cheer for the invalid returned soldiers in hospital. The takings for the day amounted to £B3, which reflected great credit on the ladies’ committee, consisting qf Mesdames A. S, Bennett, T. Sutherland* A. H. Christie, R. Miller, Davies, D. Mitchell, Limbrick, J. H. Snowdon, Misses Mitchell, Hastie, Eliott. Mrs D. Bashford and Miss Eliott collected. £ls. Thanks were accorded to Mr J. Campbell for donation of a lamb. The winner of the cake was Mrs D. Mitchell, of the lamb, Mr W. Lister. The committee is , very grateful to -all who so- kindly assisted. In view of the work of the Red Cross Society in Wellington, the Manaia Ladies’ Committee has disbanded and no future effort will be made in Manaia.
