On the eve of the publication of the letters of Empress Frederick, Sir Frederick Ponsonby received a letter from the ex-Kaiser, through a third party, demanding that the letters should not be published and hinting that the letters were stolen from Friedriclishof. Sir Frederick Ponsonby replied that he intended to publish the fact. This is so incensed 'the ex-Kaiser that he is threatened to proceed at international law to have them suppressed. LONDON, Oct. 30. The “Morning Post’s” Berlin correspondent states that there was considerable surprise that there was not a single British car at the first international motor show in Germany next week. American, French, Italian aud Belgian makes are strongly represented. It is pointed out that an immense field exists in Germany. During the past two years America was responsible for more than half the cars imported into Germany, ten times thfc volume of those from Britain. PARIS, Oct. 30. The French Treasury is prepared to consider a compromise on the taxation of lawn tennis matches, enabling the Davis Cup contests to be played m France and continuation tournaments in the Riviera and elsewhere. HONOLULU, Oct. 30. The British cruiser Diomede sails on Wednesday for Auckland, via Suva, She is carrying mails.
