CYCLE RACING.
AROUND MT. EGMONT. LARGE ENTRIES. The North Island cycle eliampiviiship for 1028 is to bo decided on October 20, when the annual Taranaki circular road race round Alt. Egmont will take place. Forty-six nominations, considerable loss than last year, have been received so far, but the closing date has been extended a few days and it is hoped to bring the number up to well over 50. Despite the small entry, however, the contest promises to 'be well fought.. Christchurch is again sending Hill, Austen and Weir, who rode from the scratch mark last week with McCann, Austen and L. W. Hill securing second and third fastest time respectively. C. Parker, who won the fastest time around the mountain in the last race, is unable to compete as he has been obliged to give up training, but the local contingent included S. W. McCann, recent winner of 'the fastest time from Timaru to Christchurch and holder of the New Zealand road championship, and O. Tippins, last year’s youthful winner at Now Plymouth.
