VENIZELOS’S CHANCES.

PROSPECTS CONSIDERED GOOD. THE RESTORATION ISSUE. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON. Aug. 13. D-espit© p-c-rsona-lii.ios and 'defamations by the local gutter Press, there i.s every prospect of M. Venizelos obtaining 165 seats- of the 2(50 in the Chamber, reports the “Daily Telegraph’s’’. Athens correspondent. Fifteen hundred- thousand- refugees from Tlirace will probably vote for M. Venizelos, who iis at present in power, to a man • moreover, the average voter is desirous of closing the political strife. If the Rbyailists are returned it is obvious there will be a period of cavil: war, whereas peace and- foreign loans are urgent necessities for Greece. In order to prevent multiple voting M. Venizelos- has agreed to a popular candidate's! suggestion that voters in Athens, Piraeus and Salonika should each dip a finger in coloured fluid which would be indel-lible for 48 hours. Interviewed last week, M. Venizelos said that outwardly the -restoration of the monarchy was not before the electorate, but it loomed large in the background. If the Royalists were returned to power and attempted to bring back the king, Greece would again he plunged into civil war. He regarded it as certain that the Royalists would immediately hold a mock plebiscite, although they had twice refused a plebiscite pro-po-sed by the Republicans.
