MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The social and dance held in Alanaia town hall on Wednesday night, in aid of St. Cuthbert’s Girls’ Guild, was very successiul. A splendid programme was submitted, which reflected great credit on the organiser and tutor, Mrs. C. W. •Solomon, assisted by Mr. C. Abbott. The stage was most artistically decorated and represented an Indian camp scene. This being the work of Mrs So.omon, * Mrs and Miss Cassidy, and the music was supplied by Mr and Mrs Woods and Mr Aobot who played the accompaniments. The floor was in good order and Mr J. A. Hansen fulnlied the duties of M.C. The sapper table was prettily decorated by Mrs 0. Petch and Airs D. Mitchell. Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee, Mesdames J. A. Hansen (convenor), I). Mitchell, J. Barlow. P. Davies, O. Petch, W. T. Wells, C. W. Solomon, Cassidy, D. Price and Miss Cassidy. * The programme of vocal and elocutionary numbers was much .appreciated, and Air F. Silver delighted the hearers with liis comic songs and had to respond to three encores for each number. A Girl Guild number, “Indian Red Ming,” with Miss E. Davies as soloist gained an encore for this young artist. Aliss Stevenson was deservedly recalled for her recitation while the songs, “1 Wouldn’t Leave my Lit tie Wooden Hut for You” (soloist, Aliss E. Davis), and “Reed Bird” (soloists Aliases N. Hansen and' E. Price) were -both most successful. The playette merited special mention and each character did full justice to her part. The following took part: — Alisses E. Neeley, B. Young, E. Price, E. Davis and M. Hansen and G. Hansen. Rev. C. W. Solomon during the evening heartily thanked all who -had assisted to make the function such a success, and lie specially thanked Air Silver for his able assistance.-
