PARLIAMENT.
HOUSE O<F REPRESENTATIVES! (By Telegraph—Pr°ss Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. Mr H. G. R-. Mason (Eden) moved in the House of .Representatives to-night the’ second reading of the Licensing Amendment Rill which, he explained, dealt solely with the wine-growing industry and did not in any way trench, upon the larger issues of the licensing question. Mr Mason dealt with the importance of the wine-growing industry to the Dominion and pointed out that- the industry was suffering from certain disabilities. One' of these was that winegrowers could sell only tlieir own wines. That restriction he did not think was ever the intention of Parliament. He was seeking to allow them to sell each other’s wines.
The next point was that the winegrowers couid not sell less than two gallons. He was. seeking to reduce this quantity to one bottle. No winegrower could sell wine for consumption on his premises; therefore be saw no reason why he should not bo permitted to sell a" smaller quantity than two gallons. A division was call led' for on the second reading, when th© voting was 30 for the Bill and 24 against, and the Bill was read a second time.
