COUNTY ADMINISTRATION.

WAIMATE WEST CH UN GIL

WORK OF THE MONTH. The work done during the past month and proposals for the coming month were discussed a.t the ordinary meeting of the Wainnate West County Council on Thursday, when there were present Crs El. Long (chair), A. F. Gamlin, F. Mourie, J. Leslie, J. S. McKay, J. F. Stevenson, and Sir Wan. Le Fleming.

ENGINEER’S' REPORT. In the course of his report the engineer stated that what stone wa® out on the Riama' Road had been crushed and rolled and blinded. The crusher was now at work on the Lower Oeoi Road, where tlie council had over 200 yards of boulders crushed. This metal. had •also been blinded. Maintenance work had been .carried out along the Sheet, Main Siouth, Glenn and Auroa Roiads. The trees in tlie Ivapuni Rleserve had been cleaned. CORRESPONDENCE. The Taranaki Local Bodies’ Association advised- that the next quarterly meeting was to he held qu August 29, at Eltham. It was resolved that tlie chairman (Cr E. Long) and Cr. Mourie represent the council at the conference. The .Department of Agriculture enclosed a certificate of renewal of a slaughter house 'licence to J. F. Kiley.

COUNTY .CLERKS

A conference of county clerks as to be lield on September 26 at Wellington. I t was agreed to allow the clerk to attend and to pay expenses. It was stated that a concession on the railway would bo in aide. Next year,' said the chairman, the clerk’s conference would he held at the same time as the Counties’ Association.

DRAINAGE MATTER, Cr. Leslie reported that in conjunction with 'Sir Win, Le Fleming, Cr. Gamlin and the engineer, he had inspected the Taikatu Road drainage, asked for by a ratepayer, to lower the road level of pipes, and that their unanimous opinion' was that nothing could be done as far as the drainage was concerned, if the ratepayer would do the work, the council Would agree to give him the pipes required, and that could be easily arranged by him. The councillors agreed with Cr. Leslie that they would give nothing away, but they were always ready to do what was fair. It would be illegal to do anything, more than was agreed. The chairman said that the .councillors had dope well. Such visits of inspection made for efficiency and everyone did whait he could and no one shirked his part. WANDERING STOCK. Tlie subject af wandering cattle was brought up by Cr. Leslie, who said the nuisance still went on and he noticed a man had been injured by running into a bank when (meeting cattle at night. Tho engineer said that the ranger was out; at all times and he wn's making every effort to stop.this trouble.

GENERAL. It was agreed that a week’s notice bo given of .rates due and that then the olork take proceedings against default ing ratepayers. Notice was given that the nates as proposed at last meeting be made and levied. The offer of the Government- printer to provide as loose sheets amendments

to A'cts each year for ttio- sum of £2 17sGel was accepted. ' A request was made by Mr vT. Patterson through Cr. Meßay for same repair work to be done on the 'Lower Winks’ -Road, to enable his carts to get out. He said shingle would do, provided it was rolled well in at once. Cr. McKay referred to sections of the Kokera Road and the road leading to the Maori pa, where the method .suggested 'had been successfully used. It w!as agreed that the work should be dene. J
