ENGLAND DEFEATS AUCKLAND PROVINCE.

Before an attendance of 15,000 and under ideal conditions the English League football team defeated the Auckland provincial team by 14 points to 9. The original provincial team underwent several changes on account of some of the South Auckland players not being available. YVitli one exception all the players belonged to Auckland. The game proved very fast and open, a 'feature being the passing movements bv the English backs. However, had the provincial team’s five-eighths combined at all well England would probably have been defeated. The provincial team opened with a great, passing rush, in which Dufty, Peekham and Beatty were prominent. The Englishmen were penalised, and Dufty kicked a fine goal. Tire visitors started a brilliant passing bout, in which Gowers, the full-back, played a prominent part. The provincial team, however, offered a wonderful defence, land Amos tackled Rees just- as the movemnt looked dangerous. Hall and Moi&ley were associated in clever passing, arid 1 a minute Inter Hanlon made a beautiful opening and passed to List, who sent Scott over to score a fine try. Dufty failed to goal. A brilliant movement by the provincial backs followed. Beatty, made a sensational run down the side line. The local wing beat Gwynne, hut Rosser saved a possible try. The visiting backs threw the ball about in great style, but again superb tackling held up play. Fnircloiigh started a passing movement, in which Rosser made a beautiful opening and passed to Frodsham. who scored a great try. Gowers kicked a magnificent goal from the side line, making the score five all. It was a brilliant effort, and both teams thew the ball about in pleasing style. Peekham and Dufty look part in a clever passing bout, and the homo full-back found touch with a splendid kick. Gwvnne raced down the side line and in-passed to Fairclough. who scored a. brilliant try. Gowers failed to convert, and the scores were : England 8. Provincial 5. From a penalty Dufty kicked a great goal for the provincial team. The English backs opened the second spell with clover nlay, and Fairclough raced back" in half-wav. New Zeal a rid was penalised, and Thompson missed •the goal for England. Peeklram nriskieked and Frodsliam broke away, but his pass lo Rosser was forward. Gowers made several brilliant saves for England. Peekham cleverly bent Frodsliani, but Hall dropped a. pass, and a chance wins missed. From his own goal line Gwynne started the most brilliant passing boat of the game. The hall travelled to Fairclough, who cut in beautifully and threw n long, one-handed pass to Rees, who ran 40 yaxds to score a brilliant try. Gowers
