RIVALS FOR RICKARD.

LOOKING FOR HEAVY-WEIGHTS. WANT LOGICAL CONTENDERS. A promotional alliance to beak into " hat they termed “the monopoly in the heavy-weight boxing division” was formed at New York at the end oi March by Humbert J. Fugazy-, New York promoter, and James O. Mullen, of Chicago. These two promoters, their, statement said, joined forces to develop a logical ■contender to challenge for the heavyweight title, and also ■ contenders in other boxing divisions. Fiigazy, who is now building the Metropolitan coliseum in New York, a sports arena seating 32,000, said he would co-operate with Mullen in building a similar arena for Chicago. They announced their intention of holding elimination bouts, not only in the heavy-weight division, but in all other divisions. Fugazy and Mullen propose to sign all logical contenders, thus assuring them matches in New York as well as in Chicago. While the promoters did not mention Tex Rickard’s name in their statement, it is generally accepted in ooxing circles that they were brought together in a mutual desire to compete with him. “It will be the policy of the combination,” their statement said, “to produce a popular choice for heavy-weight honours, and not content I’o.r the title with a hand picked opponent. “Fugazy and Mullen will sign all logical contenders for two fights only, one in New York and one in Chicago This method will give the public in America’s biggest boxing centres an opportunity to judge for themselves who is the logical contender and will not tie up any boxer for an indefinite period of time. “The present monopoly on tlie heavy weight situation lias failed to produce legitimate contenders,” the statement added. Fugazy and Mullen named the following rnen as receiving their consideration as contenders for the heavy-weight title: Paolino Uzeudum, of Spain; Roberto Roberti, of Italy; Armando Emanuel, of San Francisco; Ivnute Hansen, of Racine, \V.is; George Godfrey, negro heavy-weight of Chicago; Less Marriner, of Chicago ; Vietorio Oampolo, of South America; Phil Scott, of England Jack D'orvel, of Pennsylvania; and K.
