Seven head-hunters recently convicted of murders during a tribal fight on the Sepik Hirer were hanged to-day at Anibundi in view of their fellow tribesmen, state advices; from Rabaul. A new wireless code is being adopted by several trams-Atlantic steamers and, it is hoped, will later be adopted throughout the world in order to secure medical -aid where a ship is without a doctor. Eor example, the c-ode “Maiham Mahatl” means “a male passenger has had difficulty in breathing.” it is expected the new code will, considerably aid medical assistance. LONDON, July 27. Miss Mercedes Gleitze, the English Channel swimmer, attempted to swim the Irish Channel to-day from Donaghadoe to Port Patrick, Scotland, a distance in a straight line of 22 .miles, but abandoned the effort after swimming 13 miles in 14 hours'. Tt was recently stated in the House of Commons that all the marine underwriters at Lloyd’s Institute’ of London Underwriters and the Liverpool Underwriters’ Association had voluntarily agreed not to underwrite consignments of arms for China. Many underwriters in other countries have a.donted a similar policy, including, it is learned, the Polish transport insurance companies underwriters at Rotterdam and Amsterdam, and the French Union des Syndicates de Compagnies, Assurance Contre Risque de Transport.
