Last Sunday the members of the Alananv Guiue company and the Alan am Scout troop paraded together at the ulturch cn England. Tlie Vicar conducted u mast inspiring service and preached a special sermon on the Guide and Scout organisation. The effective ceremony of tailing the colours up to the chancel by the colour parties, i\ here they were received by the vicar and laid oil the altar during the ser.l e, was carried out.

Ist HA WE If A GUIDE COAIPANY. The company room was the scene of the greatest activity on Saturday fast. The usual wont of the company—signalling, test work, corners—was putaside for on this afternoon; Ist riawera kept sliop. Ase we entered we saw the isweet stall, all set out with delicious sweets in little baskets and paper boxes and everything was marked at the ridiculous price of a penny and twopence. • When last we were able to tear ourselves away from this toothsome coiner we came to the work stall. \\ onderful bargains in the very latest outfits ior dolus, heaps of cuddlesome hand-made toys —the most remarkable looking cats with yards of tail, inkblack babies, and little creatures who looked as 'if their native land, was darkest Africa. And there were books and magazines enough to satisfy the erudite Guide in the world, and coloured beads and necklaces and little hammens cunningly made of wood (awfully useful for hammering in tacks), and bookmarks painted in pretty designs, and lovely things done up in bundles for fashioning- spring ' and summer toilettes for numerous doll families; and so many other wonderful things, one grows dizzy remembering them all. And all at twopence and one penny. Next door was the refreshment counter with cups of tempting looking beverages in pale pink and plates of cake, and here one could drink as much as one listed at one penny a, cup, and eat as far as one’s funds permitted, ol cake at a penny a slice. Next door was the afternoon tea buffet where tea was served from huge white enamel teapots, and there were the tempting home-made cakes and scones and sandwiches. One certainly needed to be a. plutocrat before one ventured to this pla.e of reckless extravagance, for sixpence- was the charge! One saw numerous hungry-looking Guiders round the tables, but the \ounger fry mostly preferred their refreshment from the counter, where you got pale-pink beverage and paid for what you ate! Then there was tlie art gallery and here were • ( 1J the wonders of the universe, which were most politely explained by a Guide .or tlie sum of one penny. Swarms of Guides and Brownies fell over each other as they hunted for bargains, or stood about in groups and showed their purchases. "What a lot of fun it was to be sure, and all the time one knew it was for the Good Deed Fund, and pocket money was generously spent for the joy of helping others. Then at last it was time for the busy shop-keepers to shut up shop, but indeed there’was. little or no vstock left to sell Very liappilv we gathered in a horseshoe ‘ round the company colours and stood at attention while colours were lowered. Then dismissal and the jo L’ afternoon was over. The Ist Hawera is feeling tremendously proud and happy, as well they may be, for they made by their effort the sum of .£'4 6s Od. Well done!

HAW ERA RANGERS. The Haw era Rangers held a sixpenny evening at their clubroom on Monday night, in aid of their Good Deed Fund. Each girl brought an article which was sold for sixpence, and tlie sum of 23s was raised.
