(From Our Own Correspondent.)

COMBINED' BALD

'On Monday ■evening the local iadies aaid bachelors held tireir annual combined hall, it proving a huge success. As was emphasised on the evening many dancing enthusiasts had looked forward to this striking, function. In spite oil the epidemic of sickness which I has overcome the local and surrounding districts, the committee were well rewarded by a crowded ball. The main portion of the hall was gaily decorated with coloured streamers, together with a variety of greenery. From a bell in the middle of the hall streamers were extended to. the' walls, while in the centre of the bell! three coloured paper bells were hung, j around which were arrayed several coloured lights which greatly added to the splendid effect of the decorating. The walls were arrayed in a variety of greenery while the stage was artistically decorated with spreads of greenery (about three feet above the stage level), above which was a network of coloured streamers. An archway was made on to the stage up to which were steps permitting a passage over t-lxo stage. With allil these artistic decorations the ballroom appeared very attractive while an artificial r added greatly to the convenience and pleasure of the dancers: This announcer was conveniently worked by slides' which were placed in front of a. coloured light installed inside a box. The floor, having undergone a special preparation was in excellent order, while the supper was greatly appceci affable. Excellent music, was supplied by Boulton’s orchestra, while Mr W., Day acted a,s M.C. Extra music was supplied by Miss N. Parry. Much credit is due to the ladies for assistance with the supper and to Mr JV. Day for the excellent manner in which he carried out has. duties as secretary.

EUCHRE!. At the fortnightly euchre paity held under the auspices of the Mangaitoki branch of the Farmers’ Union,'on Friday evening, Mi’s Colson (ladies’) and •Mr CL Reeve (men’s) were winners of the most number of points for the evening. The euchre .season is now drawing to a close and the next party (August 4) will probably ibe the last. Several players, both among the Ladies and men, are within reach of the points prize, so the next party will see some close contests.
