(From Our Own Correspondent.) I GOAIPETITION FOOTBALL. Tangarakau secured the victory in their match with Tahora at Tahora on Saturday, 21st. The usual good football was somewhat marred by the bad condition of tlie ground, many initial movements; being abruptly terminated. The final score; was 10 points to 4. Air. Malcolm refereed. Alangaone forfeited to Strathmore, being unable to secure a team to travel to Whangamomona, where the match was to be played. The table of points for the AVipiti Cup is as under: Tangarakau 10, Strathmore 7, Tahora 7, Whangamomona 6, Alangaone 2. Tangarakau are a game ahead. The Tangarakau junior footballers again met with disappointment, for the Whangamomona. juniors failed to make an appearance at the local ground, and their match has been further postponed. SOCIAL. >

A very happy social evening was spent at the school on Tuesday, 24th, the occasion marking the opening of tlie new school loom. Those present included Mr. and Airs. L. M. Fairbrother, Mr. and Airs. G. Half, Misses B. Henry and R. McOartic, Air. Alexander, the senior pupils, and old scholars. Dancing, games, and songs passed the evening, and a dainty supper was served. Mr] Fail-brother promised a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. \V. Evans, who supplied the dance music. Extras were .played by the Misses AlcCartie, Houston and Gandeia Master L. AVipiti officiated as M.C.

GENERAL. Air. F. AV. Furkert (engineer-in-chief •of the Public AVorks Department, Wellington), accompanied by Air. T. Ball (Taranaki district engineer), visited Tangarakau last week-end. An extensive tour of the works- was made on Saturday, 21st A including the tunnel workings and electric power plant. A inild epidemic of influenza, is being experienced in Tangarakau. Though not of a serious nature, most cases are temporarily confined to bed. The sickness is responsible for much “off duty” among the men, and is also affecting the school attendance in no small way. The dancing classes which are' held in the local hall every Monday evening are meeting with keen support hv the young enthusiasts. Only a very moderate charge is made to cover the cost of hall hire, etc. The promoters are to he congratulated, for their efforts are the means of introducing more patronage; to the social functions hold here. Mu-sic is supplied alternately by Alessrs. Evans and O’Carroll.
