NORDEN CUP GAME.

TARANAKI’S STRONG BID

Dannevirke played their third Norden Cup game of the season oil Wednesday last, when they successfully defended it against a stiong Taranaki team. The two previous contenders were Wairarapa and Wairoa. The game from start to finish was very fast and keenly fought out, and only good defensive play by each team’s backs kept the scoring down. It was only just before' half-time that the first goal was scored, Mclntosh finding the net for Dannevirke after a very tense struggle following a corner hit. Half-time followed shortly after. The second spell saw each side' attacking in turn. Play became very fast, the hall travelling from one end of tlie field to the other, in quick succession. About half-way through the K|>ol[ the Taranaki forwards made it determined attack on the home team’s goal, and after some exciting play around the circle Irwin succeeded in finding the net, making the seme one all. Play continued up and clown field, but no further score resulted to either side, and a fine game, which kept the spect;itors- in a state of excitement the whole time, ended in a draw. Of the Taranaki team it would lie hard to single out nnv outstanding olaver, as each justified liis inclusion. This says a lot for the selector. Mr. -T. Davison. The game was very ablv controlled by Messrs 1 . Schmidt (Damwvirke) and A. T,. Palmer (Taranaki). Tn the evening the visitors were entertained at dinner. Mr. A. MeNicol. nr’esklont of the Dannevirke Hockey Association, presiding.
