SCHOOL PLAYING GROUNDS.

COMPLAINT A,GAINST RUGBY PLAYERS.

At last evening’s meeting of the Hawera School Committee the headmaster, Mr Bates, i complained of the misuse of the grounds and buildings by Rugby players. Mr Bates explained th’at permission had been given the union to play one match on the school grounds, ibut instead of only one day, the ground had been used for over a month without permission. “Give the footballers an inch and they will take a mile, ’’ said the headmaster. “There is re'ally no harm; in using the grounds, but players carried mud inside the buildings, undoing- the work of the caretaker. Gates were left open allowing cattle, etc., to enter the school grounds. The taps had been left running, and motor cars indiscriminately entered the grounds, cutting tup the turf,” lie said. The headmaster suggested that arrangements could be made and the gymnasium would (be -available as a dressing shed.

The matter was left in the hands of the .chairman, who will, meet the Rugby Union on the matter.
