PARIS, July 25. Mr Collum, upon his -return from London, made a -statement in response to the urgent request of the French Lawn Tennis Federation that he should not deprive French lawn tennis lovers of the opportunity of seeing the greatest player in the world' in the oominetition, He isiaid: “I have decided to a,ssume the responsibility for authorising ' T.i• Wear to play Tilden in the Davis Cup team.”
TILDEN STILL TO I FACE CHARGES. Received 1.15 p.m. to-day. PARIS, July 25. Mr. Col lam explained that the. decision to play Tilden was taken entirely on his own responsibility. Perhaps in America they did not appreciate the French feeling that victorv was not complete if Tilden had not played. Besides, Tilden had coached his colleagues. Mr. Gollum added that Tilden must meet the charges on his return to America, but the charges did not contravene international regulations. therefore there was no reason for drepping him.
