GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION REDUCED PRICE WANTED. INTERESTED PARTIES CONFER. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 10.15 a.m. to-day SYDNEY, July'24. The Bavin Government is taking definite action to solve the coal trade depression. Tlie Premier stated that the Government will insist on a reduction in the price of coal, the high price of which was imposing a heavy burden on the railways, tramways, and other facilities in addition to keeping up manufacturing costs. The overseas trade, which absorbed three and a half million tons in 1913, now stood at only a million and a half tons, while the inter-State trade had. similarly dwindled. A conference of parties interested, including the Government, is now trying to arrive at a basis for a compromise which will enable the industry to be put on a stable footing.
