CONFERENCE AT NEW PLYMOUTH.

Spence and J. L. Weir. Papers were read by Mr. C. H. Weston on “The Future of the Profession” ; bv Mr. P. O’Dea on “The Law of Contributory Negligence”: and by Mr. Alfred Coleman on “The duty of the profession to the public* to scrutinese impending legislation.” Mr. Spence said they were- indebted to the three speakers for preparing ...noli excellent speeches since Saturday, when they first received a request. On the motion of Mr. Taylor the speakers were accorded a vote of thanks. ~ , ~ Hr. Weston in his address dealt with the various difficulties the profession was having to face, and considered in detail the effect of such difficulties on the prospects for the profession for the future. At the invitation of Messrs. Newton King, Ltd., agents for the Shaw. Savill Line, the delegates were guests aboard the motor vessel Taranaki between 5 and- 6 n.m. The delegates were entertained at luncheon and at dinner in the evening. There followed a smoke, concert. Mr. Spence presided at the latte?* gathering, associated with him being the' Mayor (Mr. 11. V. S. Griffiths), Hr. C. E. Bellringer, M.P., Mr. R. W. Tate. S.M., Dr. G. Home, Captain Chudleigh (marine superintendent ot the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company). Captain Wood Commander of the m.v. Taranaki), Air. W. G. Walltley (president of the Taranaki Agents’ Society). Messrs. H. Gilmore Smith, W. D. Arndt-, and A. L. B. Ross
