NOVELTY BALL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The spirit of carnival prevailed in the town hall on Wednesday evening on the occasion of a novelty fancy dress masquerade ball in aid of the Opunalce carnival candidate. The hall and supper room were tastefully decorated, and the many and varied lancy costumes lent colour to the animated scene. The supper arrangements were well carried out by an energetic committee comprising the following ladies : Mesdames a. 8. Hickey, IS. Morris, C. l'errick, Rowlands, Leahy, Caigou, and J. 8. riickey. The following were present in fancy dress: —Gypsies : Mr. and Mrs. Caigou, Mr. and Mrs. S. Hickey, Mr. and Mrs. T. 8. Hickey, Mr. it. rtichards, and Mrs. TN, Watt. Pierrots: Mrs. G. Taylor, Miss A. Taylor, Miss H. Piley, Miss |M'. Kirk, Mr. B. O’brien, Miss S. Jenkin.'Mrs. J. Kershaw, Mr. It. MacDonald. Carnival: Mr. J. Donaghy, Miss M. Smith, Mr. J. Pollock. Miss M Donaghy. Scottish: Mr. W. Bell, Mr. J. Kirk, Mr. ioung, Mr. A. Boss, Miss J. - McCandiish, Mias J. Kirk, Miss A. Boss, and_JMiss Matthews. Apache: Miss K. Twoomey, Miss £>. Moon, Miss N. Fleming, Miss C. Moore, Mr. B. hleming, Mr. C. O. Edmonds, Mr. O. Blennerliassett, Mr. J. Butherford. Military: Miss i. Julian, Miss L. Trotter, Mrs. F. Loesch, Mrs. Parlies, Mr, G.'Trotter, Mr. C. Julian, Mr. F. Loesch, and Mr. B. Jones. Spanish Troubadours: Mr. C. McCulium, Mr. L. Matthews’ Mr. J. Wilson, Mir. B. Wallis, Miss J. Feaver, Miss M. Prior, Miss McDermott, Mrs. Pollock. Others present in lancy dress were : Mrs. E. Morris (Outdoor Life), Miss M. fctealy (Military), Mrs. G. Walker . (Duchess of Gainsborough), Miss 13. Goad (Cavalier), J. Burton, Miss Hotter, Miss’Silson (jazz), Mr. A. Sinclair and Miss 1. Henderson (Babes in the Wood). The prizes for tlie best fancy dmsses were won by Mrs. G. Walker (Duchess of Gainsborough) and Miss G. Geary (Grandfather). The military won the prize for the best set, with the Spanish cof cor-Trvnrl
Coburn’s’ orchestra supplied excellent music, and extras were played by Misses Julian, Moon, and Hotter. Novelty dances were won as follow : Spot, Mr. Lusk and Miss Bourne: Monte Carlo, Mr. Morris and Mrs. Jenkins. Novelty events were won by Mr. J. Crawford (lucky supper ticket), Mr. T. Hogan (lucky hat), and “Mr. Spondulix”, who was Mr Morris, was discovered by Mir. E. Smith. Mr. AV". Bell carried; out the duties of M.C. -i During the evening Miss M. Healey gave a 'delightful exhibition of fancy dancing, which was much appreciated.
