A luncheon was given in Berlin on Sunday in honour of Sir Robert Lindsay, tire British Ambassador, who is return ihg to London to become permanent Undei-Secretary at the Foreign Office. He was born as Cleveland, Ohio, and was educated at the Michigan University, graduating in 1905. Later 'he went to New York as special oorrespondent for the Cleveland Leader. Among his numerous plays, “Fair anid Warmer,” “The Best People,” “Tlie Gold Diggers', and “The Girl in the Limousine” are some of the best known, while in collaboration with Alary Roberts Rinehart, he wrote “The Bat-, Seven Days.” and “Spanish Love.” Dm Monday evening the wife of Air. Thomas Bennett, a well-known resident of Clifford Road, Eltliam, was found dead in bed. Deceased, who. was ■aged 50, had been a sufferer from chronic asthma for several years past. She took light refreshment at 7.30 on Alonday morning, and a dose of medicine at noon, when she was apparently in her usual health. When visited by her daughter at 6 p.m. she was found: dead. Medical testimony showed that death had taken place some hours previously. The death occurred recently at his residence at Aramoho of Air. Duncan Campion, one of the oldest and best known residents of the Wanganui district. The late Air. Campion was born near Bulls about 73 years ago, and was a resident of the Wanganui district all his life. He always took a. very keen interest in horse racing, and in his early days was wonderfully successful as run amateur horseman. He was one of the earliest members, of the Wanganui Jockey Club, and -for some years was a member of the Committee. In bis time. Air. Campion owned: and raced a number of _ good horses. He followed the occupation of a. farmer for a. long period, Irut retired some years ago. About two year’s ago his health, failed., and his death was not unexpected. In the House of Representatives yesterday the customary motions of condolence were moved by the Prime Minister in connection with the death of the Hon. AI. Cohen, AI.L.C.; the Hon. 'Major Benjamin Harris, a former member' of the House of Representatives and AI.L.C.; the Hon. John Fisher, AI.L.C.; the Hon. J. B. Callan, AI.L.C.; Air. John Edie, a former member of the House of Representatives for Clutha; Air Charles Lewis, a former member for Christchurch and Courtenav; Sir Westby Percival (a former member for Christchurch; Air. Hugh Joseph Finn, a former member ‘dr Wakatipu. The motions were seconded by Air. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, and were supported by other members, all of the speakers referring in appreciative and sympathetic terms to the deceased members. As a mark of respect to their memory tlie House at 4.5 p.m. adjourned until 2.30 p.m. to-day.
