WINTER SHOW

OPEN CONTINUOUSLY TO=DAY«

ITS MANY ATTRACTIONS.

LARGE CROWDS ATTEND

YiKSTKKOAI.

For the last day of the Winter Show —it will close this evening ..at 10 o'clock—the executive has arranged to have the buildings open continuously so as to enable visitors from town and country to have every opportunity to see the big show and. the remarkable displays made by firms, especially of Empire and New Zealand goods, by the Government Departments of Agriculture, Publicity, Railways, and Tourist, bv the Meat, Dairy and Honey Boards, and by the scnools and the farmers.

Much appieciation lias been expressed of the remarkably fine . series or posters exhibited by the Empire Marketing Board, and specially sent to tlie \\ inter Show executive m Hawera. They trace the growth and development of the groat Empire in a most fascinating way. The “Highways of Empire,” showing specially the enormous extent of the Empire and its wonderfully efficient shipping services ; the advantages of reciprocal trade between the Old Country and the Dominions, are shown by the exchange of primary produce for manufactures. The dairy industry is emphasised, and the Motherland is shown to be the origin of its men and its dairy cattle. Of special interest, too, are the large painting of the Empire builders, the colonisers, ‘sailors, statesmen, explorers, missionaries, soldiers and commercial men from 1600 to the present day; the marts where our produce is bought and sold and the sources of the commerce of the Empire—-copra, tea, rice, sugar cane, and the innumerable industries managed by men of Britain in the outposts of Empire—these indicate what there is to see, and they are all well worth study.

All day yesterday there were.large crowds in the buildings and the special feature was the visit paid by school children to take advantage of the morning pictures shown by the Publicity Department. They give a.wonderful knowledge of the resources of tlie country. . • Tlie tea mm this year is a great improvement on previous years and has been largely patronised. The service is under an efficient staff and- has provided well for visitors. Dining the day there is a. series of musical numbers on the panatrope to interest patrons. The Winter Show football attraction, the Wellington—Taranaki match, brought visitors from all over the province, who thronged the town and the show. The evening session bids fair to be one of the best during the duration of the show.
