OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. “THE ROUGH RIDERS” AND “THE COLLEGIANS.” San Antonio .still remembers the “ensemble of six-shooters” that live hundred Rough Riders contributed to u Iveer garden concert in ISfIS. The occasion, one of the festive and tempestuous moments in San Antonios long history of hospitality, is reproduced in Paramount’s picturisation of “The Rough Riders,” which commences a two-night season at the Opera. House to-night.' It was a farewell party to Roosevelt’s men given at Riverside Park, and the whole town turned out. Professor Carl Reck had hi.s drums and brass on hand for a concert., with “The Cavalry Charge.’’ as a special number. The climax ol the. selection with brasses at lull Hare and drums rolling out thunder was to he’ a. pistol shot. When the bass, drummer bred it, one of the Rough Riders veiled, “Let’s help him out, boys.” Thereupon, f>oo troopers drew their sixsiiooter.s, and sent a deafening volley to the roof. Men, women, and children scrambled under tables in the’ excitement. Lights went out. The ■musicians fled. Chairs wore overturned. And six-shooters popped and flashed. It was a great party, and in its reproduction Mary Astor, Charles’ Farrell, Charles E. Mack, and the other players enjoyed themselves thoroughly, as did Director Victor Fleming. GR AND THEATRE—TO-NIGHT. “A WOMAN ON TRIAL.” A woman shoots a man who is responsible for the loss of her one interest in life—her child. Brought up ' before a Paris judge and jury, she is freed! Why? Come to the Grand Theatre to-night and find out. Pola Negri’s new Paramount drama, “The Woman on Trial,” deals with a timely subject—can a pretty- woman “get away with murder?” Arnold Kent has a fine role as the “heavy,” while Einal- Hanson is also said to contribute some memorable work. Mauritz Stiller, known in America principally because of “Hotel Imperial,” directed. There is a strong programme in support, • including two News reels, inkwell cartoon, Christie comedy and scenic.
