A London cable message announces the death of the Right Rev. Frederic Wallis, formerly Bishop of Wellington. At the St. John’s Bible Class Institute last evening a pleasing ceremony took place, when Mr. W. G. Watts was tne recipient of a presentation in the form of a small attache case from his fellow members of the Bible class Mr. L. A. Taylor referring to Air. Watts’ work in the activities of the church apd Bible class, paid a tribute to the guest’s great popularity and regretted his departure. Although he was going away lie would always have the wishes of his Hawera friends. Airs. A. Thomson, on behalf of the St. John’s Institute, made the presentation. Alessrs C. Laurent and S. Shore also spoke of the good work of the guest of the evening. Mr. Watts has accepted a commercial appointment and leaves for the Empire City on Saturday. A visitor to Hawera is AH T. J. Fitzsimonis, uho was a resident of the town up till 1890. He had been at school heer under Mr Alair and Mrs Hornpman. Air Fitzsimons livew at New York and is taking a trip through New Zealand visiting various places he knew years ago. He is amazed at the growth of Hawera, and pays a very sincere compliment to the civic authorities for their energy and progressive spirit and to the people generally for their enterprise. Air FJtzsimons was at school ■with Air P. T. Donnelly, and with, him is touring the town and district. Ho will leave, for the south', to-morrow.
