There were very few factories in the North Island not represented. and many had several delegates present. The Joll factory (Okaiawa) was represented bv the whole, of the directors', the general manager and secretary. The following Taranaki factories answered the rod call: —Alton, Ararata, Bell, Block, Cardiff, Cape Figment, E!l----tliam. Ha-imra, Ihaia, Jails, Kaponga, Kaupokonui, Kakaramea, Kaimata, Meremere. Lowgarth, Mangorei, Mid • first. Maugatoki, Molls, Maketawa, Mak'ii.hu. Manutahi, Moa. . Fanners. Melrose. Ngaere, Normanay, Omaha, Oaouifi. P'ilhama, Patua, Pembroke, danofu. Stratford Farmers. Tikorangi, Tari ki. Uruti Valley, Whenuakura, Waitoltni and Waitara.

In moving the adoption of the annual report (already published), the chairman gave an interesting review of the year’s work and the conditions lulling in the industry. He commented favourably on the remarkably good remits following the liberal use of fertili and the fine autumn in making the season a very favourable one in all 1 isiriets, the increase on last year heivi.oi estimated at about two per cent. 1 c (relieved that if conditions continued as they were going now, the ■omiiig season would probably be one of ■he best on record. The use of fertilisers, .care and testing of herds, better methods, in every way and the genera,Yy improved organisation in the industry vo e having a marked effect on the remits achieved. He strongly urged the need for con‘inued research work at the dairy school now commencing its work at the Jarsey College. Factories were assisting their employees to take' the course, and the N.D.A.* was offering medals for ■om petition. He regretted that the proposed exemption of the industry from, the Arbi, ration Act had been defeated. C* ,'sioms tariffs was given consideration bv Mr Morton in furtherance of suggestions, that duties on dairying machinery should lie modified or a.bolslied. but actually there bad been an increase. The Government said that .lairyintJ! was the backbone of the Dominion. therefore the .industry should .lot be hampered. Costs of production mffit l>e reduced, and this was one means to that end. Overlapping of carbagp in factory districts cost, in the, estimate of Mr singleton. £35,000 per annum! and this should be avoided. A conference of those interested wound probably .reach the desired result. Th'3 balance-sheet showed a small profit. and there had! been decreases in expenditure and the position looked very promising for the future. _ur I’. A. Winks was returned. unopposed for Taranaki, and Air T. Moss. ! I'.ketalmna) was n e-lected for AVellington. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
