HAWERA SHOWGROUNDS PROPOSAL. BOROUGH COUNCIL’S DECISION.

At the meeting of the special committee those in attendance were the Mayor (Mr El. A. Pacey), and Oris. E. Alorrissey and AY. G. Strange, an apology ifor absence being received from Clr. AV. G. Simpson. The acove recommendation refers to the proposal made last year that the B-rough Council should acquire, in conjunction with the Hawera County Council, on a basis to be decided, the grounds of the Egmont Agricultural arid Pastoral Association, in order that the mortgage on the property might be discharged and the grounds secured for all time for the district. It was -proposed that the purchase should be runded by the raising of a loan, and various suggestions were made regarding the ratio of financial responsibility to be borne by the two local bodies. It was also proposed that the grounds should be administered by a trust representative of the Borough and County Councils and the A. and P. Association.
