SACRED RECITAL
A GOOD RESPONSE.
A large audience ..greeted the .performers at the tsaered recital organised by the Ha-wera Municipal Band held last night at the -Opera House. A feature of 'the evening was -tine singing of the hymn “Nearer 'My God to Thee’’ by the huge audience led by the hand. The people entered in to the spirit of the hymn and sang most heartily.
The two anthems, by the Methodist Choir, the fine solos- by Miss Mary Barnes “Abide With Me,” and Mr. A. E. Morris “A Farewell,” in addition to tin? band members formed an excellentprogramme. The conductor appealed to every one tioi he as liberal a.s possible because of the most deserving cane© for which the recital was given. He also thanked the following for giving as donations, Mr. J Blair for carting. Opera House Company for hall, and staff for services voluntarily given, Mr. Dixon for piano and Mr. Horsburg-h for collection elates. . . The sum of £23 10s was given m the collection.
