(From O'ur Own Correspondent.)

SCHOOL. SPORT'S. On. Saturday last Manaiia was once again the scene of a spirited contest in the realm of .sport between the rival high schools, Oipunake and Manaia. Despite the rain, the football match was fought out most keenly, and ended in a win for the home team by 14 toi 8. The Manaia score was composed of a penalty. kick, and tries scored by Katt, Young and Edwards, the latter converting one try. Opunake’s score consisted of two l tries, scored by J. Woo!ford and L. Main. IX Dudley converted the first try. Lunch was served the visitors' in the High School room and the spirit of comradeship existing between the' sister schools, the spirit that causes these periodical visits to each other, to be looked forward to with the greatest pleasure by alll concerned, was evident. The weather clearing in the alter-, noon the rival basketball teams met to try their shilll. The ground was in very bad order for play, but the game was thoroughly enjoyed, the Mianaia girls -wanning by 6 to. 1.

HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA. The secondary students propose, producing entirely on their own initiative a four-act play of one of the best modern play-wrights - Sir J. M. Barrie’s “Quality Street,” which is a fine example of the [better cflas® of modern drama, has been selected and week after week the pupils have sacrificed every moment of their spare time till now the great effort is near its fulfilment. The eoeneiy is being prepared under the direction of Mir Abbot, while the costumes, having been unobtainable in New Zealand, are being procured from Sydney. A school concert was to be held m August, but there Was a feeling that the’ two efforts would be rather close together. The idea, of a concert has been dropped, while the High School pupils are extending their original objective to include an effort to meet the needs of their school committee. If necessary other steps may be taken to augment the funds later. The proceeds from the intended play aire to be devoted -first to helping the book committee already established, so that next year’s books' may be bought and re-soild as required by new students; secondly, the whole school is in need of new sports material for next summer; thirdly, the school committee needs money in order to carry on its- year’s work, and if a substantial donation can be handed over to that body its financial 1 worries or the immediate future can be. alleviated-.
