AFTER THE WINTER,

AN ECONOMIST’S PREDICTION.

(Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. That there were boom times ahead, and that the economic position would improve greatly after the winter, were the (minions expressed by Professor Tocker when giving an address on Saturday evening to the Christchurch Hardware Merchants’ Association.

Professor Tocker said that by a statistical survey of ' the economic position of the country during the past few years it could l>e seen that there would l>e a boom in. business during the next few months. In 1925-26 the value of the exports from the Dominion had gone' down .by £10.000,000, hut in 1927-28 there had been an increase of nearly £12,000,000. The slump after 1926 would now give way to a boom which would bring the position hack to normal. He did not expect, however, that the boom would be manifested until after the winter.
