STOCK MARKETS.
AN INTERESTING WEEK. EXCELLENT PROSPECTS RECORDED.
There is a continuation of the feeling of confidence and optimism which has 'been growing as the result of the generally satisfactory conditions prevailing in the stock markets. It is a long time since the position generally was so good and when prospects for the coming season were so promising. Dairy produce prices are at a good level and are reported to be firm. "Wool prices have been remarkably good, and stock has rarely been in such great heart at this time of the year and in such strong demand _ The country is in splendid condition, with a fine wealth of pasture, and all classes of farmers should enter the new season on very advantageous conditions.
Clearing sales show excellent averages where stock is in good condition. Recent clearances for herds show averages of £l2 8s to £l4, and this seems likely to continue. Dairy stock look likely to be very firm. But for all classes of stock there is a, strong demand; weaner heifers sold lately at £5 2s 6d for a line of twenty, and two-year in-calf heifers sold up to £l6. ‘ Fat cattle are not too plentiful and prices are good, with a. prospect of hardening as the winter progresses. The demand for store pigs and weaners is likely to increase shortly, as the level of prices is fairly good and the position is very promising. Business in pigs is certain to increase and many farmers are rearing more than ever before.
