OLD SETTLER PASSES.

MR AIORRIS ROBERTS. The many friends of the late Air. Morris Roberts, of Inaha, will regret to learn of his death, which took place yesterday. Of kindly disposition and a splendid neighbour, the deceased gentleman was always ready to do a kindly action, and was mucli respected by all who knew him.

His passing severs another connecting link with the old-time pioneers, as the late Air. Roberts landed in Wellington from Wales 56 yea ns ago, and immediately made north to Waverley, staying there for some little time. He then went to Ivakararaea, where for some years he was employed by the late Air. James Ball. Eventually he settled down on a farm on the South Road at Inaha, some, years later shifting to the present homestead oil the Ahipaipa Road. He was a great lover of horses, and bred some high-class thoroughbreds, of which Denbigh, dam of Moifa, was perhaps the best known. Atoifa won the AVanganui Steeples in the early part of the present century, and later saluted the judge in the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase. Other well-known horses bred, bv the late Air. Roberts were Lady Isabel and Freewill.

To the two surviving members of the family, Messrs. Bernard and Richard (Dick) Roberis, will be extended the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
