NAPIEIR, PARK MEETING. ACCEPTANCES ANNOUNCED. (BY TELEGRAPH”PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NAPIER, June 12. .Acceptances for the Napier Park winter meeting are:

NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By “Maecenas.”) Although Pouri failed to gain a place in the A Vinter Steeplechase at Ellerslie his foi’in suggests that he will win over country when the class is not too rich. Taking a line through Black Mint’s dual success at the Dunedin meeting, it would appear that the standard of Hat racing in Otago just now is pounds below North Island form.

San Fern, gave a poor display at Ellerslie. The climb up the hill on this course does not favour non-stayers. After his failure at the Auckland meeting there will be a disposition to under-rate Brigadier Bill. As a matter of fact he did not have his usual confidence up north, bub on the last day of the meeting he was going like a winner under his 12.0 when he fell about seven furlongs from home. Eerie’s relative, Aiiss New Zealand, made a good impression at Ellerslie, and it will take a good figure to buy her.

In the past the Auckland province lias supplied some great hurdlers and ’chasers, a few that may be mentioned being Record Peign, Cavalcrio, St. Simon, Sol, Kaitere, Waimai, Beau Cavalier. There is now a possibility of Glendowie developing into one of this class.

Oration has the reputation of not being honest, hut at the recent meeting of the Auckland Having Club he ran two great races, and was unlucky' to be beaten, particularly in the seven furlong event. Alter running two excellent races in minor hurdle events at Ellerslie last week, Pukerimu was priced and £S<JO was asked. Provided Pukerimu passes the veterinary test, a deal at the ugure quoted will be effected.

The NVairarapa owner Air. C, Valiante won two open hurdle races at the recent meeting of the Auckland Pacing Club, the stakes totalling just on a thousand sterling. These races were more easily won than would be a hack hurdle race in these parts. Despite his failure at Ellerslie, Aberi'eldy' will he a competitor at the coming meeting of the Wellington Pacing Club. A few days’ rest at home and Aberfeldy will strip a better gelding at Trentham as the result of his /northern trip.

It was stated in Auckland last week that the New Plymouth trainer Jfi. George had decided to accept the position of private trainer to an Australian sportsman. If George decides to cross the Tasman his loss to the smaller racing clubs of this Dominion will be serious, as he was a good patron and usually' had four or five horses at a meeting. Although little luck had fallen to George of late, it was not due to want of fitness of horses; in fact no trainer had his team looking bigger, better or brighter than E. George had. Wedding March is rather a meanlooking gelding, but there is no doubt about his quality. If he is sent south to contest the Wellington Steeplechase lie may prove one of the hardest to beat.

Of recent years a fair number of horses trained in the Auckland province were sent to the winter meeting of the Wellington Pacing Club. 'Phis year the Te Kuiti Pacing Club will hold a meeting at Ellerslie less than a fortnight before the former meeting. It will be* interesting to see what effect thatmeeting has on the gathering at Trentham.

When Kawim was pulled up in last year’s Grand National Hurdles race he appeared to bo in such a bad way that few who witnessed his plight expected to see the son of Formative race again; but the form displayed by Kawim at the recent meeting at Flierslie showed that he is far from being a bade number, iand lie is a. decided possibility for any big jumping race that comes up for decision during the present jumping season.

Amongst tho sires adverti«ed for next season appears the name of Agrion. As the son of Limond and Water Wings will be only four years old in August, it would appear that trainer R. J. Mason lias convinced himself that Agrion would not stand a preparation. Some considered him a champion, hut a glance at his public performances must convince one that, at most, he could only be classed as a fair performer. As a matter of fact Mason made no secret of the fact that he did not look on Agrion as a solid stayer, and his public efforts certainly show Agrion to be more brilliant than solid. That Mason did not look on Agrion as a great performer was revealed at the spring meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club. At this meeting he won the Derby, yet Mason would not saddle him up to meet Limerick (who was not at his best) in the 1 ; \- miles of tho Stead Gold Cup, in which event a good three-year-old has a big advantage.
