KING’S BIRTHDAY.
MANY ATTRACTIONS. RUGBY, SOCCER, GOLF, AND HOCKEY. Monday will he a very busy and interesting dav for sportsmen all over the district, and specially in Hawera, Mauaia and Patea. Most of the. winter sports will have attractive features staged for the day in the form of tourneys or matches. Rugby will be. marked by the first representative match of the season, when, at Wanganui, Taranaki will meet the Wanganui representatives, and a good match is certain.. At Hawera, the Wanganui soccer representatives will he in the field against Taranaki. A keen contest is expected. Hockey has a. great annual fixture at Hawera, the occasion being the ladies’ annual tourney for the Catran Cup (complete teams), and the five-a-side men’s tourney. These are certain to be great attractions. Manana will bold, on behalf of their hand funds, a seven-a-sido Rugby tourney for primary school teams, n useful "football feature, and one deserving of all encouragement. In addition there will also he a girls’ basketball tourney, which will attract many competitors. Patea and Stratford will both run Rugby '.seven-a-side tourneys. the former for the Morse Cup and the latter for the Dewar Shield.
A men’s golf team from Hawera will play an annual fixture at New Plymouth. It is a popular outing, and a strong team will go from Hawera. A ladies’ team will come from New Plymouth to Hawera.
In Hawera there will also he a Scouts’ rally and sports meeting. An event of interest to farmers will be a big rally of the members of the Farmers’ Association at Otakeho. to he addressed by Messrs. B. Gililes and E. K. Cameron.
