DAVIS CUP ENGAGEMENTS. ANDREWS’ CHANCES IN SINGLES. (SPECIAL TO “THE STAR.") WELLINGTON, June 1. The New Zealand Davis Cup team is expected to meet Czecho-Slovakia in the third round of the European zone contests this week-end, states Mr. D. Murray Kean, secretary of the New Zealand Dawn Tennis Association. The matches in the third round must be compeltcd by Sunday week, and the games are always arranged for ibe week-ends. It is expected that the team will already be in Prague practising prior to the mater..

If E. D. Andrews, the 1927 singles champion, can win both his singles it is considered that the Dominion can win this next match. Andrews has been practising in doubles since his arrival in England, and official advice is that he is now showing much better form at this side of the game than ever he displayed in New Zealand. On the record of de Verda, the Portuguese champion, Andrews is considered to have a good chance to score 4 a double victory on his second appearance in the Davis Cup. De Verda in recent seasons defeated Damascus, the German champion, Spence, the South African Davis Cup representative, and pushed V heatley, a member of the British team, to five sets. Against Andrew's lie could win only nine games. Russell Young is also stated to be playing well in doubles, but J. G. Peacock is suffering trorn an injury to his hand.
