TANGARAKAU.

LIBRARY EUCHRE AND DANCE. (From our own correspondent). The usual good crowd of enthusiasts attended the Library Committee’s Euchre and Dance held in the hall on Friday last. The euchre 1 tables were well filled, prizes for the evening’s play being won by Airs Crosby, and Mr L. Duggan (firsts), booby prizes by Mrs P. O’Brien and Mr O. Woodeny. The ladies prizes were donated by Air J. Moran, and the men’s by Air T. AVipiti. As in previous seasons, the library committee are awarding handsome aggregate prizes, for ladies and men, at the end of the series of euchre parties. Supper was served by a capable ladies committee, and much appreciated. Excellent music was supplied by Alessrs Davison and Evans, supper extras were played by Airs G. Davis. Alessrs J. Cherry and Air W. Campbell officiated as Al. C’s.

FOOTBALL. Two friendly matches were played on the local ground during the weekend. Tangarakau played Tahora in which the former secured a decisive win by 17 points to 3. Air T. Selby refereed. During this game At. Sullivan was forced to retire with an injury to the shoulder. His place as captain will be temporarily filled by T. Brennan. Alangaone v. Tangarakau proved a keenly contested game, resulting in a draw 3—3. Aik' Alalcolm was referee. Three trophies are to be competed for this season —the Pellett Cup, as a challenge cup between teams selected) from Whangamomona and Tahora, against Tangarakau and Alangaone; the Alereditli Shield is donated for a “knock-out” competition, to be played later in the season; the Wipiti Cup, as a competition challenge cup. Fixtures for the first round of the competition games are as follows: Atay 19. —Whanga v. Tangarakau, at Tangarakau (Air Alalcolm, referee); Tahora v. Alangaone, at Tahora (Air Alurphy, referee). Alay 26th. —Tangarakau v. Alangaone, at Tangarakau (Air T. Selby, referee) ; Tahora v. 'VVliangamomona at Whangamomona (Air Alurphy, referee). June 2nd. —Whanga v. Alangaone, at Whanga (Air Selby, referee); Tangarakau v. Tahora, at Tahora (Air Foley, referee). Some interesting football is anticipated this season, for play lias reached a high standard among all local competing teams. The recent formation of a sub-union in this district will promote even more keenness and enthusiasm for the sport. AIEETINC OE FOOTBALLERS. At a meeting held by the footballers in the local hall on the 15th inst., a general discussion of the rules formed by the new sub-union took place. Boundaries for the four districts were definitely fixed. All arrangements for the footballers’ Ball, which is to be held on Friday, June Bth, are well in hand. Boulton’s Professional Orchestra, has been engaged and the catering is in the cap-, able hands of Air B. Vinsen, of the Stratford Alarble Bar. The energetic committee are working to ensure a memorable evening and a record response is anticipated. PERSONAL. A party of five ladies and two gentlemen, who are on a tramping tour of New Zealand,; reached Tangarakau on Tuesday. They spent the whole day making a tour of the works powerhouse, and tunnels. Towards evening they proceeded on their way, their route taking them through the Tangarakau Gorge. PERSONAL. Airs F. Hear lias returned to Stratford after spending a short holiday with Airs J. Alanson. Air and Airs Ralph Aladclock have left this district en route for England, per s.s. lonic from Welilngton.
