OPUNAKE.
TUG-OF-WAR NOTES. (By “Anchor.”) Arrangements are wetl in lxand for this monster tug-of-war tournament, to be Feld at the Opunake Town Hall on May 22, 23, 24, and 25, which promises to be a great success. Air Aloriarty pulledi anchor for the winning team at Eltliam. There are rumours of a mighty team of farmers on the Arawhata Road combating at Opunake. W. McCook put nip a fine performance at Elitham on the laay-stick. Tlie man who can lift Gernhoffer is some champion. There was no tug-of-war at the Kakaramea sports this year. Have they thrown in the sponge? I was expecting to see them at Opunake. Tug-of-war practice is rife in Opunake just now. The Opunake Band is entering a team for the coming tournament. If Bandmaster Humphries gives them the “time” they should put up a “uniform” performance, and be ‘instrumental” in “blowing” all comers off the “platform.” Five Arawhata men pulled nine at Oaonui Hall the other night; but they say it was not a fair test, as the Arawhata men pulled too hard. Jim Fraser pulled the roof off his house la sit week. “Jim” is in the Arawbata farmers’ team:, and is as keen as a south wind. Arthur Crawford is looking fit and well. They flay he is in groat form. A strong ladies committee has been set up and has been working for some considerable time making _ supper arrangements for the four nights. - Entries have not dosed yet, and there is a prospect of teams from several towns outside the district. Great interest is being .shown by tho. public, and they should not be disappointed.
