EARTHENWARE PIPES

A COMBINE ALLEGED. BOMBSHELL FOR DRAINAGE BOARD. [by telegraph—press association.] CHRISTCHURCH, May 16. Something in the nature of a bombshell was sprung at the meeting of the Christchurch Drainage Board when Mr H. G. Livingstone made the declaration that there existed in New Zealand to-day a combine or trust of some earthenwaro pipe manufactures, whereby the price and output of pipes was controlled by a monopoly much to the detriment of the public and of local bodies. He supported liis allegations by a copy of an agreement which lie claimed was in operation. The subject arose from a letter from the Napier Concrete Company, (Auckland) quoting prices for the supply of pipes. After a vigorous discussion, the board decided not to call for tenders for .the pipes it requires. It is 'determined to give a straight out ordrt to the Napier Concrete Compony for £5009 worth of pipes.
