ALLEGED BRIBERY
MR. LAMBERT’S CHARGES. INQUIRY TO BE HELD. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN PRESS ASSOCIATION. ) CANBERRA. May 16. 'Pie Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. S. M. Bruce, said (that the object of granting the royal commission to. inquire into Mr Lambert’® bribery charge was to piotect the honour and dignity of die national Parliament. Mr Theodore, whose .seat is involved, said that he thoroughly approved of Mr Mr Bruce’s action.
Mr ..Scullin, Leader of the Opposition, announced that the proposed caucus inquiry into Mr Lambert’® allegation fixed for to-dav would be deferred in view of Mr Bruce’s action, which had surprised the Labourites'. Air Lambert wired, to sav that he was ii’il.
A.n earlier message stated: —ln the House of Representatives, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. S. M. Bruce, announced that .the Chief Justice of the Hi ; p;h Court of Australia. Sir Adrian Knox, had been appointed Royal Commissioner to investigate the charges of attempted bribery made bv Air AY. Lambent, a member of the House of Representatives.
