In the beautiful chateau he has just had- remodelled near Saint- Germains, the .ex-Maharajah of Indore, who wishes in future to- he known as Sir Thikoji Holkar, -to-day gave the “Daily Express” his first newspaper interview since the world, discussed his marriage with an American girl.
“We do not want Westerners 'to look lightly on our marriage,” he said. “By mar rying t-h-e Maharanee I have extended a hand to the West. It i« for the West to understand the g/store, and in the right way to welcome it. We are showing the world that a close union between the East and the West is possible.”
The Maharanee, tall, silim and graceful. who was present at the interview, said that by adopting Hinduism she had not given up Christianity, and she never would give it up. Hinduism contained alt the essentials’ of other religions. Philosophers had found in Hinduism a stronger striving towards brotherhood and greater love of other human beings than in other -religions. She would always -lore to return to India-. Sh:3 -said she. could not describe the kindness of the Indians towards her.
