Eor some time tlie Covernment HRS' kept open a standing offer to give a site at Mount Cook and £IOO,OOO for a. national war memorial museum and art gallery if the citizens of Wellington would subscribe' another £IOO,OOO. The Mayor of Wellington informed a meeting that . £156,000 had already been subscribed in sums of £IOOO to £ISOO. A powerful committee was set up to discuss the campaign, and subscriptions will be invited outside of Wellington, as the war memorial is a national matter.
