TARANAKI ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Hockey Association was helj on Wednesday in the Eltham Council Chambers. Air J. J. Davison presided, and the hollowing delegates and officials were present: Mr F. Sage, vice-president ( Hawera) ;' Messrs I. J. Bridger and C. d. Pennington (management committee) Messrs - Miller and- Winters (uManaia), Messrs Alunro, Byron, Lawson and Lvans flWaitara), Messrs Davies, Edwards (Otakeho), Messrs H. C. Johnson and Gaze (Stratford), Alessrs Sage and AlcFadyen ('Hawera), Alessrs Davies and Pennington (Eltham), Alessrs ,J. J. Davidson and Betts (Kaponga), Air C. Free (lAlangatoki). The president cordially welcomed the delegates to the meeting. The attendance, he stated, indicated that hockey in Taranaki was very much alive. The past year had been a, very successful and considerable interest had been displayed by the various teams working under the association. Several new clubs had registered and four new teams had been accepted. The standard of play had improved and the competition between the various teams had been exceedingly keen. The representative team which visited Alasterton and Wellington gave a good account of itself and only hard luck prevented it from winning the Norden Cup. He was very pleased at the re-appearance of the Hawera teams. The balance-sheet showed that the total receipts for the year were £Sff 8s lOd, and the expenditure £74 Os lOd, the balance in hand being £S Bs. The report and balance-sheet were adopted ou the motion of Messrs .Johnson and Free.

At this stage of the meeting Air H. Xodder, representing the Eltham Lad ies' Hockey Club, presented to the association, on behalf of the club, a full set of .jerseys for the representative team. Air Nodder. in presenting the jerseys, stated that, the ladies' club had money 7 in hand, and the members felt that they could make the donation to the association and thereby show the good feeling that existed. Mr Davidson thanked Air Nodder for the gift and asked him to convey the association’s deep appreciation of the motive that had prompted it. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows: — President, Mr W. Benny (Alangatoki); vice-presidents, Alessrs F. Sage (Hawera), and Winters (Alanaia); secretary and treasurer, Air E. Urry (Eltham); management committee, Alessrs Bridger, Johnson, Betts and Davidson; selectors, Wednesday team, Air Winters; Thursday teams, Air C. J. Pen-i.-.ington; sole selector of representative team. Air J. J. Davidson.

The following teaiu s were enrolled: Wednesday, H awe jo A and B, Manaia, Otakeho, and Mangatoki. Thursday: Waitara, Stratford, Eltham A. and 8., and Kaponga. It was decided to commence the fixtures oil May ' 16 for Wednesday teams and May 17 for Thursday teams. The Kaponga Club applied for permission to conduct a fivc-a-side tournament on June 3. Considerable discussion took place concerning the question as to whether the Kaponga Club should be given permission to hold the tournament at Kaponga or whether the association should conduct it at 11awera in conjunction with the Ladies’ Hockey Association, which contemplated holding a ladies’ tournament on the same date. It was eventually decided that the association control the tournament itself in conjunction with Ihc ladies’ association and that the tournament be held at Hawera on June 3 The following were appointed to act in conjunction with the ladies’ committee to manage the tournament. Messrs MeFadyen, Winters and R. Pennington. Mr Winters offered to donate a silver cup for competition at the tournament. It was decided to place on record the appreciation of the services rendered to tlie association by Mr Jackson, while acting as its secretary during the past two years. Both the president . and Mr Bridger (chairman of the management committee) spoke stressing the amount of work done by the late secretary for the good of hockey generally.
