EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT

OPENING BUN OP SEASON. GOOD MEETING AT WAVER LEY. Once again a large crowd of followers met at “Staintoy Park,’’ thie residence of Messrs Lupton Bros., and were rewarded worth a good day’s hunting. The weather was fine, but rather too warm to' be very pleasant. The fences were in good order and there were only one or two’ spills and no serious injury. A pleasing feature was that three of Mr I. Lupton’s boys were out, two on their ponies and. one on his father’s grey, taking tne fences in grand style. Huntsman Miles had the hounds looking big and lusty, and towards evening they were running splendidly. Throwing, off from the back of Mr D. Lupton’s house, duiring the first half of the afternoon the hounds failed to find any quarry. Further down the road a strong hare was put up in one of the gullies and gave a good run across the road over a brush and wire double, making towards Mr I. Lupton’ s, circling around tlie homestead, and, after a good chase, finally made toward® thi3 plantation and was dost. The followers jumped back the way they had come, and after ineffectually trying to raise “puss” out of the swedes on Mr I. Lupton’s bill, made for the homestead, it being late in the afternoon, and hounds, horses and riders all were beginning to feel the effect- of a long but perfect day. Miss Lupton and Mrs P. Aitken kindly dispensed afternoon tea to the crowd that assembled.

The -master, Dr. Simmon’s, thanked' Messrs Lupton Bros, for their kind hospitality. and their neighbours for the l use of their property.
