NOT MERE BLUFF

BRITAIN’S DEMAND ON EGYPT FIRM ACTION TO FOLLOW. v ’ ' r V * v . ‘ i . IF NOT COMPLIED WITH. (UNITKD PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) li "’’ (UNITED SERVICE.) Received 1.45 p.m. to-day. LONDON, April 30. Britain’s ultimatum is not mere bluff, but is absolutely the final step preceding the firmest action in Egypt if Nalias Pasha does not withdraw the Public Assemblies Bili by May 2, says the “Daily Herald’s” political correspondent. No modification will now be accepted, only entire withdrawal, failing which Britain will act the moment the ultimatum expires. There is reason for believing that one step may be the immediate seizure of the Customs, while the warships and troops will stand by as a warning against violence. There will be an attempt to dissolve Parliament, but the action to be taken will be strictly within the constitutional rights of the 1922 declaration.

It is learned that the British Government discussed the Bill over the week-end. in order to give an opportunity' for modification, but Nahas’s defiance resulted in a decision to send the ultimatum.

EGYPTIAN CHAMBER HAS SECRET SESSION. ASSEMBLIES BILL TO BE POSTPONED. Received 1.55 p.m. to-day. CAIRO, April 30. The Chamber met for a secret session. The deputies assembled quietly and received Nahas silently. Members of the Waft cl protested against the secrecy, and declared that everyone, including the British, should hear the deputies’ opinion on the situation. Both Houses agreed to the rnent of the-Assemblies Bill!
