FIRE AT TARADALE.

PECULIAR CIRCUMSTANCES NOTED. [by telegraph—prrss association.] NAPIER, April 26. Under peculiar, circumstances a block of five buildings in the centre*,,of Tfradale, five miles from .Napier, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. _ The buildings were Occupied by T. H. Crutohlcy (baker), G. Lines (hardware store), M. J. Currie (bailor), and Miss* Jeffnrees (dressmaker). Air. Crutchley says that his house, was broken into the night previously, when the key of the bakehouse was stolen. Last night lie' heard an intruder below, but received no answer to a challenge. A fire broke out in the bakehouse shortly after. ' There had been no fire in the bakehouse since Tuesday morning.

All the occupants escaped in their night attire. The absence of water prevented the Napier firemen from assisting to quell the outbreak. The insurances* were not known.
