SERVICE AT MEREMERE.

During the afternoon a service was* conducted at- the soldiers’ memorial at M eremer. about 50 msidents of the district being in attendance. The ."Rev. It. E. Evans presided during the ceremony, which was on similar lines* to that- conducted at Hawera.. Another forceful address was given by the Rev. E. S. Emmitt, M.C.. and* orayers were given by the Rev. R. L. ifursdon. Lieut. H. C. A. Fox. whose cornet led the singing during the service, sounded' the Last -Post- and Reveille, and the district tribute concluded with the* placing of’ wreaths round the memorial.

AUCKLAND, April 25 Impressive Anzac services’ were held in Auckland to-day, a A T ast eroivd assembling for the main service at the Town Hall, Avhere the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Alice Eergusson attended and the Hon. E. J. Rolleston represented the Government. The Governor-General read the lesson and addresses AA r erc given by the Revs. Evan R. Harris and Angus MacDonald, and prayer Avas said by the Rcal G. T. Robson, naval chaplain.

After the service Avreaths Avere laid on the cenotaph by the GoA7ernor-Gen-eral and others. There was a large procession of ex-soldiers. DUNEDIN, April 23.

After a spoil of fine weather rain set in this afternoon just prior to the-big parade through the city to the \ drill hall, where ine Anzac Lay commemoration service was held. The attendance was very large. Services were also held in all city and suburban churches and in several of the schools. A memorial tablet was unveiled at the University.

PALMERSTON IST., April 25. The Anzac service to-day was attended by over 5000 people. The weather was threatening but fine. An impressive service was conducted by Padre 0. Walls, M.C., of Wellington. There was a parade of veterans, returned men, territorials, cadets and scouts, after which many wreaths were laid at the foot of the war memorial. QHR.ISTOHURiCIH, April 25. ■ At the Anzae Day celebrations today 3620 troops paraded, including 400 returned soldiers of the Great War and 45 veterans of other wars. A special service was held in the barracks, at which about SOOO were present. Other services were held at the secondary schools and in the churches. HAMILTON, April 25. . The Anzae service was very impressive. About 4200 people assembled at the soldiers’ memorial in the park, where a tree is planted to the memory of every soldier in the district who foil in the late Avar. The foot of each tree was smothered Avith floA\ T ors, Avhile the base of the cenotaph Avas hidden ov the profusion of Avreaths. There Avas a large attendance of veterans of the late and the South African Avars, wh o Avere given the plaeS of honour in front of the dais. At the conclusion of this seiwice a lengthy procession, including a firing party, municipal baud, returned soldiers, territorials, cadets and school children, marched to the Gates of Remembrance at Victoria Square, Avhere a brief service Avas conducted by the Rev. O. Burnet' (Methodist). Three A'ollcys Avere fired by the firing party under Sergeant G. Cressey and the “Last Post” was sounded" by Bugler Stan Whiteside.
