TANGARAKAU.

(From Our Own Correspondent,) FOOTBALL. -V general meeting of footballers was held in the local hall on the 13th inst., when 26 members attended. The previous season’s report and bal-ance-sheet were read and adopted. The club committee elected were Messrs T. Selby (chairman), W. Houlihan _ (secretary) , R. Parsons and C. Inglis (selectors; social committee, Messrs T, Selby (chairman), W. Houlihan (secretary), W. Campbell, C. Ingles, and W. Evans. Subscription fees were fixed at the same rate as the previous season. It was decided to send two delegates to Stratford to meet the Taranaki Pug by Union for the purpose of arranging a sub-union ■ for, the competing teams in the Whangamomona distinct. The delegates are to be appointed later. At a subsequent meeting of the social committee it was decided to run a series of euchre parties and dances during the season. If sufficient response is' forthcoming, the committee intend to introduce new novelty dances, .and the programmes will include oldtime dances tor the old-timers who attend Arrangementswere also considered for the annual footballers’ ball to be held early in June.. FRIENDLY MATCH. The football season opened in Tangarakau on the loth inst., when a team journeyed from Nilio INilio to play a iriondly match with the Tangarakau lifteen. The Nilio Nilio players and supporters travelled the beautiful Gorge Road and were favoured with ideal weather and road eonditions. Keenness for the sport was proved by the large crowd of spectators who "lined the football ground. Throughout the game the visitors showed more combination, and on more than one occasion the lack of training oil the part of the Tangarakau men was very evident. However, the game provided good clean sport and resulted in a draw—six all. Mr. T. Selby capably fuddled the duties of referee. DANCE. The first footballers euchre and Jance, held ill the llall on Friday last, trow an appreciable response, a record number of players Idling the euchre tables. Generous cash awards were die first prizes, and were won by Mrs. P. O’Brien and Mr. C. Wilcox, while looby prizes were annexed by Mrs. N. I flight and Mr. J. Guillam. A dainty nipper was served by a committee of aches and was much appreciated. Ex■ellent music was provided by the Versatile Three Dance Band, and dancng was kept going with a good swing >y the efforts of Mr. W. Campbell, vbo officiated as M.C. PERSONAL. An inspection of the works and amp was made during last week by Jessrs T. Bad (district engineer, Stratford) and' Sharpe (inspector of aachinery, Wellington). Mr. Carr, who has been relieving [eadmaster at the local school for a ortnight, left this district on Sat-ur-ay. Mr. and Mrs. Fnirbrother returned o Tangarakau on Saturday.
