FIRES.
HOUSE DESTROYED AT EOSENEATH. [BY TELEGHAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION-! WELLINGTON, March 25. At Roseneath on Friday night a dwelling of six rooms, occupied by Mr P. G. Ward, and owned by Mrs E. Burnette, was totally destroyed. There was a high wind, and, notwithstanding the fire brigade’s two hours’ light, the adjoining house was severely damaged by lire and water. The contents of Mrs Burnett’s house were insured at the United Insurance Office for £3OO, but the insurance on the building is not known. SHOP DESTROYED AT HOKITIKA. A fire at three o’clock this morning in the central portion of Revell Street, gutted Stephen Bros.’ tobacconist and hairdressing saloon. The billiard saloon at the rear of the premises was damaged by water. The contents of the saloon and shop were a total loss. The adjoining premises were not damaged. The insurances were: On the billiard tables £.150, on the fittings of the saloon £SO, and on the -stock £SOO. 4 The need for protection against fire loss is obvious.
