KING BALBOA WINS THE CUP

DUNEDIN, March 23. Tiie autumn meeting ot the Oamaru Jockey Club was held at Wingatui today in dull but warm weather, and on a track in excellent order. The totalisator handled £14,112, compared with £8931 for seven races at Oamaru on the first day last year. Results : Autumn Hurdles, one mile and a half. —2 Hard Prince (J. Cooper) 1, 1 Red Heather (Mackie) 2, 4 Beauty Light (Kerr) 3. Also started: 3 Coastguard, 5 Scion. The first two were always in front and Hard Prince won hv five lengths, with the same distance between second and third, lime, 2.46. Novice Stakes, five furlongs —1 Dumblane (B. Brodie) 1, 7 Meadow Lark (A. Ellis) 2, 4 Wine Tray (Powell) 3. Also started: 13 Bowline, 8 Busy Lad, 9 Hildreth, 12 Koremata, 6 Little Duchess, 10 Narrative, 5 Miss Marco, 2 Tardy, 11 Artistic 14 Killorna, 3 Some Signal. Won by a long neck, with a short neck between second and third Some Signal was fourth. Time, 1.34-5.

(North Otago Cup, one mile and a quarter.—l King Balboa (L. J. Ellis) 1, 3 Heather Lacl (Brodie) 2,2 Overhaul (Andrews) 3. Also started: Lucy Lockett. King Balboa soon to6k up the running and was never headed, winning by a' length and a quarter, with a length between second and third. Time, 2.10. Waikoura Trot, one mile and a half. —3 John Dee (O. Reed) 1,2 Needles (Walsh) 2, 1 Suufish 3. Also started: ■3 Donclifle, 9 Malice, 4 Red Shiner, 7 Tribute, 8 Spring Mower, 1() Drake, 5 Cardinal and Blue. Needles led practically from the start and iron by three lengths, with five lengths between second and third. As a result of an inquiry the placings of the first two were reversed on the ground that the driver of Needles flourished his whip unduly. He was fined £lO. Cardinal and Blue was fourth. Times, 3.371-5, 3.36 4-5. Flying Handicap, six furlongs. —3 Apple Dighton (E. Busbridge) 1, 1 Booster (Didham) 2, 4 Circulation, (Wilson) 3. Also started: 2 Hood as Gold, 7 Fairy Herald, 5 Dismantle, 8 Brightling, 6 Money Mine. The winner tumped out and led all the way to win by a neck. The third horse was over a" length away, and Fairy Herald was fourth. Time, 1.15. Grange Handicap six furlongs.—l Camisader (F. Voignt) 1,2 Quickform v Wilson) 2, 5 Star Stranger II 3. Also started. 4 Antrim Boy, 6 Carinthia, 3 Real Glad, 7 Valves. Won by a short half-length, with a neck between second and third.

Landon Trot, one mile and a quarter. (5 JR-ed Sliinei- 1, lO Merrigal 2, 4 Dan Huon 3. Also started: 4 Doncliff (bracketed with Dan Huon), 3 Kola Wilkes, 7 Tribute, S Heroweka, 5 Trusty Child, 9 Spring Chimes, 1 Lagon Brae, 2 Nihilist Junior. In a well-contested finish Red Shiner won by a short half-length, with Dan Huon four lengths away and Nihilist Junior next. Time, 3.0 2-5. Anniversary Handicap, one mile. — 2 Black Duke (A. Didham) 1, 1 Wingatui (Brodie) 2, 3 Taboo (A. E. Ellis) 3. The only starters. Won by half a length, with six lengths between second and third. Time, 1.42.
